3D Visualizations & Renderings
from CAD Data

Technical Guide: Process, Applications, and Strategic Economic Advantages.

3D visualization is far more than just the aesthetic representation of a product; it is the essential bridge between engineering and market communication. This page provides in-depth insights into how existing CAD data (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, etc.) is transformed into high-end photorealistic media. I will outline the digital workflow, analyze the efficiency compared to traditional photography, and demonstrate specific use cases for marketing, sales, and engineering departments.

FAQ

What exactly is 3D Rendering and CGI?

CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) is the umbrella term for all images created on a computer. 3D Rendering is the specific process of calculating photorealistic images from your digital CAD data. During this process, I simulate physically correct light, shadows, and materials, ensuring the result is often indistinguishable from a real photograph.

Which file formats are required for visualization?

For precise results, I work directly with your engineering data. I process native SolidWorks files (.sldprt, .sldasm) as well as neutral exchange formats such as STEP (.stp), IGES, or Parasolid. If no 3D data is available, I can also create models based on your technical drawings or dimensioned sketches.

How flexible is the digital process compared to photography?

CGI offers maximum flexibility: once created, your "digital twin" can be placed in new environments at any time. We can change colors, materials (variant management), or lighting months later with just a click, without the need to organize a new photo shoot. This saves time and logistics costs.

Diverse experiences: Animations, Explosions & 360° Views

I bring technology to life through various formats:

  • Animations: Make movement sequences and internal processes tangible.
  • Exploded Views: Visualize complex assemblies and their mounting or assembly steps.
  • Catalog Images: Razor-sharp renderings against a neutral background for print & web.
  • 360° Product Views: Allow your customers to interactively view the product from all sides.
What is the cost of high-quality 3D visualization?

The cost of a 3D visualization or digital rendering depends heavily on the complexity of the CAD model, the material properties, and the desired level of detail. Usually, after reviewing your data, I will provide an individual fixed-price quote tailored perfectly to your project.

How long does the rendering process take?

The timeframe for a varies depending on quanitity of scenes, quality of your data and technical complexity. Typically, the lead time from the initial concept to final approval is between 1 and 3 days. You will receive a precise schedule along with the offer.

How does our collaboration work?

My workflow is designed for direct coordination:

  • Data Check: Review of your models and discussion of the desired style.
  • Preview: Initial drafts for coordination of camera and geometry within 1–3 days.
  • Finalization: Lighting setup, texturing, and final high-end rendering.
  • Archiving: Securing your project data for future variants or animations.
What additional consulting services do I offer?

Beyond pure rendering, I support you with visual strategy: How can complex technical USPs be communicated most effectively? I advise you on integrating 3D content into your website, creating key visuals for trade fairs, and optimizing your workflow between engineering and marketing.
